Historic Farm Buildings
of Felmersham

Above: Harrowdene Farm. The farmhouse predates the 1765 parish enclosure.

Above: The Tithe Barn, built in 1428 by King's Hall, Cambridge (now Trinity College) to store the great or rectorial tithes. Converted to 3/4 dwellings in the late 1970's.

Left: Brook Farm, Parson's Barn. Built by the Parliamentary Commissioners for the Vicar of Felmersham together with 70 acres of land (in lieu of tithes) after the Parish Enclosure Act in 1765.
Above: Originally known as Majors Farm the name was changed to Manor Farm possibly sometime after 1823 when Joseph Pain (who owned the property) jointly held the title Lord of the Manor along with two others. The west wing extension was built by Joseph Pain circa 1840. In more recent times, with the change in use of the property, the out-buildings have been converted into a dwelling and the farm house is now known as Manor House.
Above: Wills Farm. The farmhouse is at least 200 and possibly 300 years old. Likely to have been named after an early occupant - Richard Wills (c1749 - 1823).

Above Right: College Farm was a working farm until the late 1960's. In earlier times it belonged to Trinity College, Cambridge and the farmhouse was leased to the farm bailiff or manager. The building was extensively rebuilt c1788. The farmyard lay to the west of the farmhouse and included the tithe barn and a granary store. For a short time (1826-46) the farmhouse served as the vicarage.

Above: Hardwick Farm. Believed by some to have elements dating back to the C16.

Left: The Old Farmhouse. Date unknown but possibly early C18 (or even older). In the C18 the building was used as a public house trading on two separate occasions under the names of the Bell and the Red Lion.
